MONTHLY OPEN-MIC SHOWCASES

Open-Mic shows are a tradition that has been around as long as comedy clubs have been.  Any and every comedian you've ever seen, famous or not, once started as an open-mic "amateur."

The New York Comedy Club in Boca Raton, hosts their open mics the LAST Thursday of every month.  Each month you will see a different line-up of comedians.  The lions share are serious comedians who have been working on their craft for a year or more, and do open mics to hone their material and work on new material.

There are also the hobby comics who perform occasionally for fun, or on a bet, or to impress their friends and co-workers, and then there are the first time comics, the "virgins" who you get to see perform on a stage in public for the very first time.  Could the comedy virgin you see be the next Jerry Seinfeld, or Chris Rock, or Dave Chappell?  You never know!  Everybody starts off as an open-mic comic.

The management  have spent over a year building and refining these showcases, and each month they continue to grow in size and success.  We place an emphasis on developing a comedy community, allowing aspiring local comedians an atmosphere to develop and grow in.

Comedians who have been performing regularly at the open mic shows and show progress have gone on to emcee spots and host some of the weekend shows.

Each month a professional headliner closes the show, and the average show has about 12 comics, each performing for 5 minutes, and lasts around two hours.

The shows start at 8:30 PM.  Admission to each show is $5.00 with a two item minimum, guests of comics are allow in complimentary.

Comedians and aspiring comedians wishing to perform at the next open-mic showcase can contact the club, or send an e-mail to openmic@nyccboca.com to register.  Each comedian wishing to perform needs to bring 5 guests, and will receive five minutes of stage time.

Information for comics:

• Sign-up is @ 7:30 the night of show at the box office

• You need to have 5 guests attend in order to perform

• Your guests will get in free if they mention your name at the box office

• You will get 5 minutes of stage time to work you magic, make sure you've timed your set in advance
